Stillife with Copper and Grand Marnier

Still Life With Copper Pans and Grand Marnier—1983.  Painted shortly after I returned from my summer session at the Schuler School. A certain amount of lighting glare obscures some color.

I used the Maroger method. Oil cooked with lead ("black-oil") and a jell medium made from mastic crystals cooked with the black oil. If this is the kind of work a person wants to do, he could do worse than use the Maroger method. The worst criticism of it is that it is "too facile."  Yet facility is what many artists want.
